By applying discounts to individual products in the cart, you can offer special prices without altering the base price in Shopify. This allows you to customize the offer to apply based on the market, customer type, or their purchase history.
Additionally, with the widget available for this promotion, you can display the discount directly on the product page.
In this step-by-step guide, you'll learn how to create a product discount in minutes with Planet.
The first step to creating a product discount is to add a new promotion. To do this, you need to access the promotions page and click the "add promotion" button.
A pop-up will then appear with the available templates. In this case, select the "Cart Product Discount" template.
Product discount configuration
Once the promotion is created, we need to configure its different parts:
1. Products
To create a promotion using any of the available templates, you must choose the products to which it will apply.
2. Actions
In this case, the only mandatory action is configuring the discount.
Method: You can select the automatic discount option or a discount code.
If you select discount code, you can limit the total number of times this code can be used and/or limit it to one use per customer.
Discount: Allows you to configure the exact value, the discount type, and whether it applies to the price or the compare-at price.
Maximum discount uses: Optionally, you can limit the number of times the discount is applied.
Cart and checkout page label: This is the name of the discount that appears applied in the cart.
Other discount combinations: Allows you to choose whether you want to combine this promotion with other product discounts and/or shipping discounts.
Currency conversion: When selling in markets that operate in currencies different from the store's currency (e.g., EUR), Planet applies an automatic conversion based on exchange rates provided by Shopify. This ensures the discount adjusts correctly to the customer's local currency.
If enabled, the discount or fixed price is automatically converted to the market's currency.
If disabled, the discount or fixed price value will be applied directly without conversion, which may result in small differences in the amount perceived by customers.
Example: If a fixed discount of €10 is set, a customer purchasing in another currency, such as USD, will receive a fixed discount of $10.
3. Widgets
You need to enable the Planet extension to display widgets on your product page.
This is the allowed widget for the product discount promotion:
3.1. Discount on the product page
Optionally, you can add a widget to your product page to display and inform about the reduced price.
This widget allows you to configure and customize its appearance to adapt it to your store's style.
General Settings
Text: You can include text (e.g., "Today only, 50% off") and variables like the original price, compare-at price, and discount.
Label: You can customize the text displayed on the discount label and include variables like the original price, compare-at price, and discount.
Compare-at price: Decide whether to show the product's compare-at price struck out, the price from which the discount was made, or neither.
Design
You can edit the colors, font sizes, and corner rounding of the different sections of the widget to fully adapt the design to your store.
4. Schedule the Promotion
When creating the promotion, the creation date will be set as the default start date. You can edit the start date and optionally add an end date or other periods.
5. Advanced options
Advanced options allow you to precisely define who a promotion applies to. The widget will only be shown to users who meet the established conditions.
Market: Select the markets where the promotion applies. Useful for displaying different prices by country or region.
Customer tags: Choose the tag your customers must or must not have. Example: only applicable to users with the VIP tag.
Customer is logged in: Allows you to apply the promotion to customers based on whether or not they are logged in.
Total orders by customer: Choose the total number of orders a customer must have placed for the promotion to apply.
Total spent by customer: Choose a customer's total spending for the promotion to apply.
Is a subscription product: Choose whether or not the promotion applies to subscription products.
