How Billing Is Calculated in Planet

Understanding the billing and performance data shown in Planet

Updated today

The KPIs section in Planet displays the real impact that promotions created with the app have on your store's sales.

In this guide, we explain:

  • What each KPI block means

  • How billing is calculated depending on the type of active promotion

You can access the Analytics section in the app to view more detailed information about your orders. For a full explanation, please take a look at our guide here.

What Does Each Block Mean?

These indicators help you track Planet’s performance from the time you installed it and every month:

  • [Current Month] Revenue via Planet: Total revenue generated through Planet promotions during the current month. It includes only orders where a Planet promotion was applied.

  • Total Planet Orders: The number of orders that have used any Planet promotion since the app was installed.

  • Total Revenue via Planet: Cumulative revenue generated through Planet since installation. This is the sum of all orders where Planet promotions were applied.

  • Total Store Orders: Total number of orders placed in your store in the same period—whether or not they used Planet.

  • Total Store Revenue: Your store’s overall revenue, including all orders, regardless of whether they used Planet promotions.

⚠️ The revenue attributed to Planet is used to calculate your billing plan, so it's important to understand how it's calculated based on promotion type.

How to Analyze Results by Promotion Type

Planet also provides metrics for each active promotion type in your store. For each type, you’ll see KPIs like:

1. Volume Discount

A discount is applied based on the quantity purchased.

The revenue attributed to Planet is the final amount paid, with the discount applied.

  • Example: If a product costs €20 and you have a 10% discount configured when buying 3 units:

    • The customer buys 3 units, original price: €60

    • Applied discount: 10% = €6

    • Total invoiced by Planet: €54

2. Bundle

When the customer buys a set of products at a special price, the attributed revenue is the total amount paid for the bundle.

  • Example: A bundle of 3 products for €60 (normal price €75) results in €60 being attributed.

3. BOGO (Buy One Get One)

In "buy one get one" type promotions, the revenue is calculated solely based on the price of the reward:

If the reward product has a 100% discount, it is not added to the revenue.

If it has a 50% discount, 50% is attributed.

  • Example: Product A = €20, Product B (€20 with 50% off) = €10, resulting in €30 of attributed revenue.

4. Price Discount

Applies a direct discount to individual products. Planet only accounts for the final amount paid by the customer after applying the discount.

  • Example: A €50 product with a 20% discount results in €40 being attributed.

5. Order Discount

If a discount is applied to the total cart value (e.g., "€10 off when you spend over €100"), the recorded revenue will be the total amount paid after applying the discount.

  • Example: A €120 cart with a €10 discount results in €110 being attributed.

6. Free Gift

If a free product is automatically added, that product does not add to Planet's revenue.

  • Example: A €30 product is sold, and a €10 product is given away for free. No product is attributed, as the one sold with Planet is a gift.

Cart Upsells

In addition to promotions, products added through upsells in the Smart Cart also count towards the revenue attributed to Planet.

  • If a customer adds a product from the cart upsell block and completes the order, that product is included in the total revenue generated by Planet.
