With Planet, you can show additional products during the checkout process, directly in the Shopify Checkout. It's a strategic way to increase the average order value by offering relevant products right before the customer completes their purchase.
⚠️ This feature is only available for Shopify Plus stores.
In this step-by-step guide, you'll learn how to create upsells in your store’s Checkout page in just a few minutes using Planet.
The first step to create an upsell is to add a new extension. To do this, go to the Checkout page and click the “Add extension” button.
A pop-up will appear showing the extensions available for each page. In this case, to create an upsell in Checkout, you must choose the “Upsell” preset for Checkout.
Configuring the Upsell Extension
Once the extension is created, you’ll need to configure the different parts that make it up:
1. Advanced Conditions
These conditions allow you to precisely segment who will see the upsell:
Products: Limit the upsell visibility to orders that include specific products.
Market: Apply only in certain countries or regions.
Amount spent in the cart: The upsell will only appear if the customer has spent a minimum (or maximum) amount in their order.
Number of products in the cart: Show the upsell if the total number of products in the order meets or does not meet a threshold.
Customer order count: Segment between new and returning customers.
2. Recommendations
Define which products will be shown as upsell:
Related products, based on the completed order.
Complementary products, based on the completed order.
Manual selection, if you prefer to control exactly what is suggested.
💡 If you choose “Complementary Products” or “Related Products,” you’ll need to have the free Shopify Search & Discovery app installed and configured.
3. Discount
Optionally, you can add a discount to the recommended product:
Discount type: none, percentage, fixed amount, or fixed price.
Discount value: set the value to apply.
Discount label: text visible to the customer (e.g., “Special offer”).
Currency conversion: When selling in markets with currencies different from your store’s (e.g., EUR), Planet applies automatic conversion based on Shopify’s exchange rates to ensure the discount adjusts correctly to the customer’s local currency.
If enabled, the discount or fixed price is automatically converted to the market’s currency.
If disabled, the discount or fixed price is applied directly without conversion, which may cause small differences in the amount perceived by customers.
Example: if a fixed discount of €10 is set, a customer buying in another currency, e.g. $USD, will receive a fixed discount of $10.
4. Configuration

Show the price before the upsell discount: the price prior to the upsell as compared.
Show the product’s original price: the price before any applied discounts.
Don’t show: hides the compare-at price.
Max number of suggested products: controls how many products appear as upsell.
