The Edit Items extension allows customers to modify products in their order without leaving the checkout process. They can change the quantity, select a different variant, switch a product to a subscription (if available), or remove products directly from the checkout.
In this step-by-step guide, you’ll learn how to configure the Edit Items extension in just a few minutes with Planet.
The first step to configure this functionality is to add a new extension. To do this, go to the Extensions page and click the “Add extension” button.
A pop-up will appear showing the available extensions. In this case, select the “Edit Items” template in Checkout.
Configuring the Edit Items Extension
Once the extension is created, you’ll need to configure its different sections:
1. Conditions
Conditions allow you to precisely define who will be able to edit products:
Products: Limits visibility to orders that include specific products.
Market: Applies only in certain countries or regions.
Cart spend: Customers will only be able to edit products if they have spent a minimum (or maximum) amount in their order.
Cart item quantity: Customers will only be able to edit products if the total number of products in the order meets a specific condition.
Customer order count: Allows segmentation between new and returning customers.
2. Configuration
In this section, you can define which actions will be available to customers during checkout.
Show variant selector: Allows customers to change the product variant (for example, size or color) directly from checkout.
Show quantity selector: Allows customers to modify product quantities without leaving checkout.
Allow removing non-upsell products: Allows customers to remove any product from the cart.
Allow removing upsell products: Allows customers to remove products that were added through a Planet upsell.
Edit button: Configure the text of the button that opens the product editor.
Remove button: Customize the text, color, and position of the button used to remove products from the cart.
3. Subscriptions
Show button to switch to subscription: Allows customers to convert a one-time purchase into a subscription when this option is available. Customers can also change the frequency of an existing subscription or switch back to a one-time purchase if available.
Show subscription selector: Displays a selector that allows customers to choose or modify the subscription frequency directly from checkout.
4. Installing the block in the Checkout
For the extension to work correctly, you need to enable the Planet - Line Item Edit block in your Shopify Checkout:
Access the Checkout editor from your Shopify admin panel.
Click Add block and select Planet – Line Item Edit.
Save and publish the changes.
Once the extension is enabled, customers will be able to edit their items directly from Checkout according to the configuration defined.
