How to create a Free Gift

A step-by-step guide to creating a Free Gift promotion on Shopify with Planet.

Updated over a week ago

Giving gifts with the purchase is a way to acquire new customers and keep your loyal customers, increasing your eCommerce sales.

In this step-by-step guide, we show you how to create a promotion to automatically add a gift to your customer's shopping cart when they meet certain conditions with Planet.

The first step to creating a Free Gift is to add a new rule. To do this, you must access the rules page and click on the green "add rule" button.

When you do so, a pop-up will appear with the available templates to create your rule. In this case, to create the BOGO you must choose the template "Free Gift".

If, on the other hand, you want your customers to add the gift to their cart manually, you must create a BOGO.

Free Gift promotion configuration

Once the rule has been created, the different parts of the rule must be configured:

1. Promotion details

In this section, you configure everything related to the conditions that must be met to obtain the gift and the gift details.

Buy

In this part, we must select the products that must be purchased to receive the gift.

The buy condition may be:

  • Buy: the gift is added when buying certain units of the selected products. Ex: Buy 3 units and receive a gift.

  • Spend: the gift is added when you spend a certain amount of money when buying the selected products. Ex: Spend 100€ and receive a gift.

Get

In this section, we must select which product will be added automatically and the number of units.

With the option β€œAdd reward” you will be able to select different products to add more than 1 automatic gift to the purchase.

2. Scheduling

When you create the rule, the date of rule creation will be set as the default start date. You can edit the start date and optionally, add an end date or more schedules.

3. Advanced options

The conditions for applying the rule available are:

  • Market: Select the markets where the promotion applies.

  • Customer is logged in: this allows you to apply the promotion to customers depending on whether they are logged in.

  • Customer tags: choose the tag that your customers should have or not have.

  • Customer total orders: choose the total number of orders a customer has had to complete for the promotion to be applied.

  • Customer total spend: choose a customer's total spend in the store for the promotion to be applied.

  • Is a subscription product: choose whether the promotion applies to subscription products.
