The subscriptions feature in the cart displays, within each product, a selector that lets the customer choose between a one-time purchase or subscribing to a recurring purchase plan.
Here's how to activate, configure, and customize it to fit your store's needs.
1. Activation
To show the subscription selector in the cart, you must first enable the option from the configuration panel. Once enabled, the plan selector will appear on cart products that have subscriptions configured in Shopify.
2. Configuration
In this section, you can customize the texts shown in the subscription selector:
Button text: the main text of the selector, visible before the customer expands the options. It usually includes the name of the available plan, so you can use the
{{selling_plan_group_name}}variable to display it dynamically (e.g., "Subscribe and save with {{selling_plan_group_name}}").Selector text with a plan selected: this text replaces the previous one once the customer has chosen a specific subscription plan. You can combine two variables here:
{{selling_plan_group_name}}, which shows the name of the subscription group (e.g., "Monthly subscription"), and{{selling_plan_name}}, which shows the name of the specific plan within that group (e.g., "Every 30 days"). If you leave the field empty, Shopify will automatically use the default names configured for the group and plan.One-time purchase text: the label shown as an additional option within the selector's dropdown menu, allowing the customer to buy the product once without committing to a subscription (e.g., "One-time purchase" or "No subscription").
Full price text: the text shown alongside the price when displayed without any discount applied — that is, the reference price used to show the savings from subscribing (e.g., "Regular price" or "Full price").
Subscription plans title: the heading shown right above the different available plan options, helping to visually separate this section from the rest of the product information (e.g., "Choose your plan" or "Subscription options").
3. Style
To make sure the subscription selector matches your store's visual design, you can customize the following elements:
Button text: color of the selector button's text.
Button background: background color of the selector button.
Button border: outline color of the selector button.
The subscription selector is connected to the selling plans configured in Shopify, so the prices and discounts shown are updated in real time based on the plan chosen by the customer.
