How is revenue attributed?

How to interpret the billing and performance data shown by Planet.

Updated this week

The KPIs section in Planet displays the real impact that promotions created with the app have on your store's sales.

In this guide, we explain:

  • What each KPI block means

  • How billing is calculated depending on the type of active promotion

You can access the Analytics section in the app to view more detailed information about your orders, for a full explanation, please take a look at our guide here.

What does each block mean?

These indicators help you track Planet’s performance from the time you installed it and every month:

  • Revenue [Current Month] Planet: Total revenue generated through Planet during the current month. This is calculated solely by adding the final price of products with a Planet discount.

  • Total Planet Orders: Total number of orders containing products with a Planet discount applied since installation.

  • Total Planet Revenue: Cumulative revenue generated through Planet since installation.

  • Total Store Orders: Total number of orders placed since installation.

  • Total Store Revenue: Total store revenue including all orders, whether or not they involved a Planet promotion, since installation.

⚠️ The revenue attributed to Planet is used to calculate your billing plan, so it's important to understand how it's calculated based on promotion type.

How is each promotion type counted?

Planet offers multiple types of promotions and visual elements, each of which is tracked differently in terms of revenue attribution.

1. Volume Discount

The final price of the product is counted only when a discount is applied.

Example: Buy 2 get 10%, Buy 3 get 15%, etc.

If the customer buys 2 units (€20 each):

  • Full price: €40

  • Volume discount (10%): €4

  • Revenue attributed to Planet: €36

If the customer buys only 1 unit (no discount applied), the revenue is not attributed to Planet.

2. Bundle

The final price of products with the discount applied is counted.

Example: Buy 2 products and get 20% off.

If the customer buys products A (€20) and B (€10):

  • Full price A + B: €30

  • Bundle discount (20%): €6

  • Revenue attributed to Planet: €24

3. BOGO (Buy One Get One)

Only the final price of the rewarded item with a discount is counted.

Example: Second unit 50% off.

If the customer buys 2 units (€20 each):

  • Full price: €40

  • BOGO discount (50% off the second item): €10

  • Revenue attributed to Planet: €10 (the discounted item only)

If the reward is 100% off, the price counted is €0, meaning it does not increase Planet-attributed revenue.

4. Free gift

Not counted, since the reward is 100% discounted.

5. Price Discount

The final price after the discount is applied is counted.

Example: 20% off all products.

If the customer buys 1 product (€50):

  • Full price: €50

  • Discounted price: €40

  • Revenue attributed to Planet: €40

6. Order discount

The total value of the cart after the discount is applied is counted.

Example: Spend €100+, get 10% off the order.

If the customer spends €150:

  • Full price: €150

  • Discount: €15

  • Revenue attributed to Planet: €135

7. Cart Upsells

In addition to promotions, products added through Smart Cart upsells are also included in Planet’s attributed revenue.

If a customer adds a product from the upsell block and completes the purchase, that product's price is included in the revenue generated by Planet.

8. Other cases

Any other visual element, use case, or promotion without a discount does not contribute to Planet-attributed revenue.

💡 Revenue is only attributed to Planet if the product is part of an active rule at the time the order is created.
